Between The Wars 5

As this project was hugely about print, in my textiles sketchbook I experimented with different ideas from research from my RAF Cosford trip mostly.

I started to look into Art Deco more, looking at the shapes of architecture and pattern and I got really interested in the shapes of the Chicago worlds fair poster I had found from that time and wanted to involve it into my design somehow.

I then took a RAF Cosford picture which I liked, a sort of cross in metal bolted shut, I then added these together, joining lines to create a pattern and to make the shapes link.

When making this print I followed the research I had found about art deco prints, and that they seem to follow a grid or such like as I have shown in my sketchbook. I made this a priority as it is important on the brief that this is Art Deco inspired.

I sampled with this print using techniques such as heat transfer and felt that it just wasn't bold enough but I really liked the print so I decided to do a screen print, for a sleek print on my dress.
I continued to experiment though, mainly with expandex. It was really successful and I loved the effect that it made with my print. However as I am planning to use chiffon, the technique wouldn't work well on this fabric, so I decided to keep with my screen and keep expandex in mind for other projects.
